Peters Family
Henry Peters was born and raised in Germany. In 1881, he married Teelka Luehring of Steinfelde, Germany. In 1894, the family came to America and settled in Alcaster, South Dakota. They came to Canada in 1904 and settled on the N.W. quarter of 28-5-5.
His father Lorenz Peters, had come a year earlier and homesteaded the N.E. quarter 28-5-5. His two grandsons, Hans and Lorenz Peters, had come with him. The brothers returned to the states and came back in the fall of 1904 with their parents and four sisters.
By this time the Browning district was becoming quite well settled and it was felt a school was needed. Henry Peters was instrumental in the formation of the school district and was the first chairman on the Yankee School District, which was formed in 1905. He was a member of the school district until 1928. His son Hans also served on the school board for many years.
The younger son Lorenz was killed in a threshing accident in 1911. He was still in his teens.
A few years after the accident, the Peters family left the farm and it was rented to the Joe Lloyd family in 1915 .
Henry Peters and his family moved into Browning where they operated a store, post office and telephone exchange. Mr. Peters also had charge of a lumber yard and livery stable. This livery stable was later moved to his former homestead. It was moved using rollers and pulled by one horse.
Henry Peters also purchased the S.E, quarter of 4-6-5 and lived there a short time prior to moving back to the original homestead in 1920.
Three of the daughters had married by this time. Katie married Jim Gordon at Arcola in 1912. He taught at Yankee school for a few years. Annie married Jim Edmunds in 1914 and Minnie married Wilfred Littlejohn in 1917.
Henry Peter's farm later became known as Willow Lodge Farm. His son Hans and daughter Lena remained on the farm with their parents. In the late twenties the family began a dairy business. Their Holstein cows were some of the best in the country.
Henry Peters was also an accomplished carpenter. He loved making model ships. The family still has one that he put in a bottle and one carved from a block of maple from the Moose Mountains.
Henry Peters died on December 31, 1937. His widow along with Hans and Lena carried on the farming.
In 1939 Mrs. Peters suffered a stroke. She was confined to her bed for ten years. During this time, Hans and Lena cared for her.
Her daughter Minnie, who lived about two miles away, usually walked to visit her mother every Sunday.
Mrs. Peters passed away peacefully on May 9, 1949 at the age of ninety. She is buried beside her husband in the Browning Cemetery.
Hans and Lena continued living on the farm, although the land was now rented. In 1962 Hans sold the land to his nephews, Elmer and Wilfred Littlejohn, and moved to Arcola.
While living in Arcola they continued doing what they loved most - growing a garden and flowers, both inside and out. They still continued attending church in Lampman where they were members of Faith Lutheran Church. When Hans was no longer able to drive a car they decided to move back to Lampman.
Only two of the Peters family are still living. Minnie lives with her daughter Mildred in Lampman. Lena lives in the Carlyle Nursing Home. Katie passed away October 19, 1968. Hans on November 25, 1974 and Annie on August 4, 1979.

Deaths
Henry Lorenz Peters of Browning died at the Regina General Hospital on Friday, December 31, 1937 at the age of 77 years and six months.
The late Mr. Peters was born at Osterfreesland, Germany, on July 26, 1860. At the age of fourteen he went to sea on his fathers ship. He served before the mast for twenty years, to become skipper of his ship. He was married in 1884, and ten years later, having retired from the sea, he moved his family to Alcaster, South Dakota, U.S.A., where they lived for a number of years. In 1904 he again moved his family, this time to Canada to settle on a homestead in southern Saskatchewan. At the time there were only a few scattered pioneers in the district. He helped to build the school and served for over a quarter century on the school board as trustee and chairman. He also represented the district as municipal councillor for two years, after which he retired.
His long and adventurous life of over 77 years took him to every important port in the world. He was loved and respected by all he came in contact with up to the end, when he lay down his burden, at peace with himself and the world.
He leaves to mourn him: his widow, one son, Hans Peters of Browning, Sask; four daughters, Miss Lena Peters of Browning; Mrs. J. L. Gordon, Wapella, Sask; Mrs. J. R. Edmunds, Medicine Hat, Alberta, and Mrs. Minnie Littlejohn, Browning.
The funeral service, which was attended by many friends and relations was held at the family residence and conducted by the Rev. J. Huber of Woodley, Sask. The pall bearers were: Messrs R.G. Willock, J Kinsman, E.A. Creighton, A. Hanrieder, C. Nelson and J. Gehl.
