Obituary

Mrs. Teelka Peters (nee Luehring) was born August 18, 1858, in Steinfelde, Germany. Here she spent her childhood and youth. She was confirmed as a communicant member of the Lutheran Church in 1876 and remained true to her Christian faith and to her church to the end.

In 1881 she married Henry Peters and this union was blessed with six children, two boys and four girls. In 1894 the family came to America and settled in Alcaster, S. Dakota, U.S.A. The family came to Canada in 1904 and settled on their farm just South of Browning, Sask., and it is here the Peters family have since resided.

On December 31, 1937, Henry Peters was called to his eternal rest. His widow together with the children carried on the farm. In 1911 one of the boys, Lorenz, passed away. At intervals three of the girls married and moved to their respective homes, leaving the eldest son, Hans, and a daughter, Lena, to care for their farm and aged mother. This they faithfully did, bestowing upon her all the loving care and service possible. While the others were attached to their mother as well, their homes were elsewhere, and it was only on occasions that they were able to be with her.

While Mrs. Peters enjoyed comparatively good health and strength in earlier years, she was confined to her bed during the later part of her life. For over 10 years she never left her bed and the little room which was her home and residence.

Her children had the privilege of spending Mother's Day at her side, and she passed away peacefully the following day, May 9th, at the age of 90 years and 8 months.

Funeral services were held from the Peters' Farm on May 11th, at 2 P.M., with Rev. J.C. Abs officiating. Burial was in the Browning cemetery. Four grandsons, Elmer Littlejohn, Oscar Schindal, Earl Willock and Cecil McCurdy, acted as pallbearers.

She leaves a family of three generations. a son, four daughters, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren., and many, many friends, as the large attendance at the services proved. Children who survive her and who were present are: Hans, Lena and Mrs. Minnie Littlejohn, all of Browning; Mrs. Katie Gordon of Rathwell, Manitoba, and Mrs. Annie Edmunds of Medicine Hat, Alberta.
